St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Carrollton, Georgia recently received EarthCraft Light Commercial certification for the Callahan Center, a new 6,600 square foot building that will be used for administrative purposes and church meeting spaces.

The site used for the Callahan Center was carefully planned within St. Margaret’s existing campus in order to minimize the number of trees cut down. Some existing building materials were reused in construction and the building’s concrete, drywall and exterior cladding all contain recycled materials. Spray foam insulation was used along the building roof plane to create a thermal barrier as well as an air barrier, which contributes to the building energy efficiency, as well as its good indoor air quality. Water saving fixtures, ENERGY STAR appliances, lighting controls and thermal performing windows also contribute the structure’s energy and water efficiency.
