The EarthCraft Celebration of Excellence is just over two weeks away, and with that comes Part Two of our series remembering past winners of EarthCraft awards (if you missed Part One, you can still check it out). EarthCraft’s commitment to sustainability and its focus on high performance buildings is exemplified through many of its projects, including the two below:
2016 Award Recipient: Emory Point
In 2016, the EarthCraft program had accomplished something previously unattained before by EarthCraft projects. Emory Point became the first EarthCraft project to achieve a triple certification. Constructed by Gilbane Building Company and developed by Gables Residential, the project has been recognized as certified EarthCraft Multifamily, Light Commercial and Communities. In addition its integrated community design, the project includes some remarkable features, including ENERGY STAR appliances, WaterSense toilets, low-flow fixtures and an inrrigation system that uses condensate from cooling units. Thanks to the builder guidance of Gilbane Building Company and Gables Residential, the development used energy modeling and a thoroughly engaged integrated designed process to achieve 18 percent energy and cost savings for their residents.
2014 Award Recipient: Proud Green Home
The Proud Green Home at Serenbe in Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia contains some of the most technologically advanced systems and energy efficiency upgrades available on the market. Certified in 2013, the home saves more energy than it consumes thanks to its focus on renewable energy sources and achieved a negative HERS Index, which measures the energy efficiency of a home. For reference, the average HERS Index in 2016 nationwide was 61 according to the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET). Built by Imery Group, the home is a certified Net-Zero home, is certified as EarthCraft Platinum and achieved ENERGY-STAR certification. In 2014, this project received the EarthCraft Project of the Year award.
You can still register for this year’s Celebration here, which will take place on October 19 at 5:30pm on the Southface campus.
